Dr. Kyriakos Maniatis (European Commission, Principal Administrator, Biofuels and Polygeneration, Energy Innovation and Technology, DG ENER)
Dr. Kyriakos Maniatis is Principal Administrator in Unit C2 - Directorate General for Energy, European Commission. He is responsible for technical issues related to biofuels and manages the DG ENER demonstration component on advanced biofuels in the Commission's the 7th Framework Programme. He contributes accordingly to the legislative actions of the EC and to the European Industrial Bioenergy Initiative of the SET Plan and he is involved in the CEN standardisation work on liquid and gaseous biofuels. He coordinates the team that launched in June 2011 the Biofuels FlightPath for Aviation in close coordination with the aviation and biofuels sectors. Kyriakos also represents the European Commission in the Executive Committee of IEA Bioenergy Implementing Agreement and served as the ExCo Chairman in 2002, 2005-2007. He regularly organizes workshops and conferences on these subjects.
Dr. Calliope Panoutsou (European Biofuels Platform, Vice-chair of biomass working group)
Dr. Calliope Panoutsou is a member of the Bioenergy Group within the Centre for Environmental Policy (Imperial College London) and her work assignments focus on biomass potential assessments, logistics & economic analyses of biomass value chains, market & policy analyses and assessment of sustainability for bioenergy systems. She has long experience in the bioenergy/ biofuels field, covering research, demostration and multi- partner project management/ coordination experience throughout Europe and she is the Vice Chair of the working group on biomass availability within the European Biofuels Technology Platform (EBTP).
Dr. Walter R. Mirabella (European Fuel Oxygenates Association, Chairman of Biofuels team)
Dr. Walter R. Mirabella owns a university degree in pure chemistry, is Managing Director Lyondell Italia, Business Development Manager Oxygenated Fuels for LyondellBasell Industries, a multinational company world leader in producing fuel and bio-fuel Ethers, Chairman of BioFuel team of EFOA (European Fuel Oxygenates Association), coordinator renewable energy sources for Federchimica and member of Board of Directors of the Italian BioFuels Technology Platform. During his 25 years international experience in the oil business, he worked for Exxon Chemical, ARCO Chemical, Lyondell Chemical and LyondellBasell Industries. He has been and still is Member of, and actively contributing to, a series of key European organizations and committees.
Dr. Muriel Desaeger (TOYOTA, Senior Principal Technologist of TOYOTA Motor Europe)
Dr. Muriel Desaeger is currently acting as Senior Principal Technologist in the Corporate Energy Research Group of Toyota Motor Europe. In this function, she is in charge of setting up the Energy Strategies of Toyota and implements actions in the field of Future Mobility. She has 17 years experience with Toyota and before acting in the current position she was General Manager of the Advanced Technology Division and the Material Engineering Division. In these positions, she developed several contacts with European part suppliers to get approval of material usage and with Universities in order to enhance complementarities and development of European and Japanese know-how. She is graduated as Material Science Engineer of the University of Louvain-la-Neuve and got her PhD in the field of Composite Materials at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
Prof. Eduardo Falabella Sousa-Aguiar (PETROBRAS, Senior advisor in PETROBRAS Research Centre)
Prof. Eduardo Falabella Sousa-Aguiar, Chemical Engineer, MSc, DSc, has 36 years experience in the field of catalysis and catalytic processes. He is a Professor of the Department of Organic Processes, School of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is also a Senior Advisor in PETROBRAS Research Centre (CENPES), where he is currently the coordinator of GTL/BTL/CTL research projects. He was the manager of the XTL cell, a group devoted to the development of XTL technologies in Petrobras..
Ms. Willemijn van der Werf (LanzaTech, Global Sustainability Director)
Willemijn van der Werf is the Global Sustainability Director at LanzaTech. She is based in the Netherlands and also responsible for the Government Relations in Europe. Willemijn has several years of experience in the sustainability field of e.g. biofuels. Prior to joining LanzaTech, she was responsible for the sustainability accomplishments of the Biofuels program at KLM and managed the partnership of KLM with the dutch wing of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WNF). In her role at LanzaTech, she closely interacts with the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB), the global certification scheme for sustainability criteria for liquid fuels. Willemijn will also support in developing LanzaTech's strategy for EU engagement, be the interface to the European Commission and lead participation in processes to qualify LanzaTech products for EU mandates and incentives.
